(Pronounced KUH-te-ree-uh )
FOUNDER AND CEO OF CROWN CONNECTIONS
There is an African proverb that states, “Until the lion learns how to write, every story will glorify the hunter.” I believe this proverb refers to the power that comes with being able to narrate your own story and to understand the power in your own voice and perspective.
A Bit About Me
I believe we all possess the solutions to our own problems. Sometimes, doubt, worry, and fear can overshadow those solutions and keep them buried within ourselves. Here is where our services can help. I like to think of therapy as a form of architecture for the mind, where we can plan, design, and construct your life from within. We cannot always control our experiences, but we can choose how those experiences define our lives.
I am from Charlotte, North Carolina, the youngest of five children, raised by an amazing single mother who taught me to value my voice and to go after my dreams until they become reality. I love my culture, music, art, DIYing, cooking, and creating memories with the ones I love. I completed my bachelors in Women and Gender Studies with a self-declared minor in Africana Studies from North Carolina State University in 2011. After working with the homeless population, I returned to school at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where I completed my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
As a minority in the field of therapy, I believe it is my duty to continue to reach back to help those who are not from a privileged family or community. I believe that my upbringing and opportunities have yielded me a unique insight into the lives of minority Americans working to overcome poverty, generational conflicts, family desertion and dysfunction, cultural differences, and gender bias.
My experiences and education have made me well rounded, and reinforce my desire to help reconstruct the hopelessness those with challenging origins struggled to emerge from. I am aware of the favor that has allowed me to overcome and the support I received that helped me in difficult situations. I want to contribute those same efforts back into the community to continue to shape our future leaders. I am passionate about helping others and about creating opportunities to connect like minds. My hope is that everyone can find something useful in narrating their own life story through therapy, coaching, or group events provided by Crown Connections.
